Shimane English Education Fund (SEEF)

The SEEF is the charitable wing of Shimane AJET. Drawing from the generosity of the JET community and friends, we provide financial support to various projects relating to English Education in Shimane. Examples include:

The Shimane Times

The Shimane Times is an annually published, 20 page, full-colour A4 size English magazine written by students from Shimane. 100% of the content, from articles to photographs to comic strips, is created by SHS and JHS students in our prefecture. Money from the SEEF funds a 250 copy print run which is enough to distribute a copy to each Senior High and Junior High School library in Shimane.

‘English Day’ Funding

The SEEF has a percentage of its funds available for ‘English Days’ that may have difficulty securing funding from local BOEs/Schools, such as special needs English Days.

The Scholarship Fund

The Shimane AJET Scholarship Fund is one of our biggest undertakings and constitutes the bulk of the SEEF expenditure. It provides a number of 100,000 yen scholarships to students wishing to study abroad in an English speaking country. This money must be used for a structured learning course, such as a language school or home-stay including lessons. Applications, which are open to any JHS3, SHS1, SHS2 student in public school in Shimane, open in October of each year.
